First Water Trailhead
This is one of my favorite places to go. From this trailhead you can enter the Superstition Mountain Wilderness. It will also branch off into many other trails.
The First Water Trailhead is easy to get to from Phoenix/Mesa area. Most of the time a four-wheel drive is not needed and often I see trucks with horse trailers. The temperatures during the summer can reach between 105F to 115F. It is not recommended to hike this area in the summer months. If you do make sure you bring plenty of water, a hat, and wear sunscreen.
From Phoenix / Mesa take US-60 east (Superstition Freeway), exit at the Idaho Road exit, then go north to the junction with Apache Trail and US-88, take HI-88 north past Lost Dutchman Park to the sign First Water Trailhead off to the right. Follow the dirt road to the parking lot at the end of the road.
